--- ### **Soul Marionette** *Wondrous item, very rare* This 16-inch-tall wooden doll is intricately carved in a roughly humanoid form. **Binding.** To function for a specific humanoid, this marionette must first be bound to them. The intended creature must spend 1 hour in uninterrupted physical contact with the doll, anointing it with a few drops of their blood while whispering their true name. A marionette can be bound to only one creature at a time. Performing the binding ritual on another creature severs any previous bond. **Soul Anchor.** If the humanoid to whom this marionette is bound dies while on the same plane of existence as the marionette, and their soul is free and willing to return, the marionette activates, drawing the soul into itself. Once a soul inhabits the marionette, it begins a 7-day transformation. The doll gradually grows and reshapes, its wood transmuting into flesh and bone, until it becomes a perfect living duplicate of the deceased individual. The creature is restored to life with all its hit points and is cured of all nonmagical poisons and diseases that affected it at the time of death. All memories and abilities are intact. This effect is similar to the *raise dead* spell but requires no material components and imposes none of the spell's usual drawbacks. Each marionette can be used in this way only once, after which its magic is expended, and it becomes a nonmagical duplicate of the creature it restored.
